MOCAAPI 2009 Charitable Gala

Nov 14, 2009 The First MOCAAPI Charitable Gala turned out to be an outstanding event. The setting was at the classic MSNJ President Joseph Reichman, MDShadowbrook in Shrewsbury. The event raised more than $ 7000 in cash donations for The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and lot of food donations.

The event brought together physicians from both Ocean and Monmouth Counties- Indians and Non Indians alike - from all area hospitals. Several members from the Ocean County Medical Society were also in attendance as was Senator Robert Singer. MOCAAPI truly appreciates their taking time to support this event.

Dr. Shrikrishna Mate, the First President of MOCAAPI delivered the opening remarks and gave a historical background on how MOCAAPI was founded. Dr. Anil Gupta, the President of MOCAAPI, in his address introduced all the guests. He emphasized that While MOCAAPI provides a forum for educational, charitable and social interaction for its members, equally important is its mission to increase mutual understanding and cooperation between its members and other medical and cultural organizations. He then went on to introduce Dr. Reichman, the President of Medical society of New Jersey, who was the Chief Guest for the evening.

The entertainment program for the evening was put together with the efforts of Drs. Vipul and Neelu Lakhani. At first Neel Murgai created the right mood and ambiance by their sitar and tabla duo during the cocktail and appetizer hour. Red Baraat, the featured entertainment of the evening was a one-of-a-kind dhol 'n' brass band and brought everybody to the dance floor. This was followed by the delicious food provided by no other than Moghul. Finally, DJ Suhel kept the night going.

The peacock themed decor provided by Elegant Affairs was so beautiful that even the owner of Shadowbrook couldn't help to comment that they had never seen something like this.

On behalf of the entire Gala and Executive committees, it is our privilege to thank all of you for making our first gala a huge success. The reviews we have been receiving since that evening are very flattering. Much hard work went into planning and implementing this event. In the end though it was very fulfilling and well worth it. Guests are already asking us for the dates for the next year!! It surely will have to be bigger next year.

We would like to graciously thank our grand sponsors, Drs. Dharam and Sunita Mann, Drs Vipul and Neelu Lakhani and St Jude Medical for making this event possible. Support also came from several others. We had several donors to our chosen charity and we would like to thank them all as well. Their thoughtfulness and kindness is greatly appreciated.

In the end MOCAAPI would like to recognize the efforts of the entire Gala Committee for doing such a fantastic job, from the initial venue selection and event plan organization by Archana (Pinky) Sharma to all the hours of hard work put in by our committee over many months. The committee included  included Vipul & Neelu Lakhani, Jigna Patel, Bankim Shah, Samir & Minal Jain, Jayesh & Kirti Parikh, Vikram Varma, Chetna Singh, Tarun & Rupal Shah, Sumul Raval, Tarun Bhandari, Vijay & Mita Sankhla and finally Anil & Jyoti Gupta. Dr. Gupta who chaired the committee expressed his gratitude and pleasure working with talented group of dedicated members.

We would specially like to recognize the efforts of Jigna Patel who worked hard along with Tina Shah and Neelu Lakhani to put together the Chinese auction which was a great hit. The decoration was organized by Chetna, Neelu and Jyoti with elegant affairs which was well appreciated by all. Vinod Sancheti as always was our star fundraiser. Samir did a fabulous job balancing the MC job and kept everything flowing on time.

Finally we must thank Neelu. There was no way we would have pulled this off with out the help of Neelu who made this event into a mission and was there, every where- from planning and executing the entertainment program, decoration details, food selections, finalizing the invites. There truly was no part of this program which she did not contribute. Thanks Neelu very much.

Job well done guys. MOCAAPI appreciates your commitment.
